Building for the Future, Rooted in Sustainability

At Casa Werma, we are committed to preserving this beautiful land as a place of practice, refuge, and community for generations to come. As part of that commitment, we are thoughtfully improving our existing facilities and building new structures to better support our guests, our programs, and our broader community.

All of our construction projects are guided by sustainable design principles and deep respect for the environment. We are honored to be collaborating with Eréndira Soto of Echeri Arquitectura, a talented female architect, sustainability advocate, and member of our local Pátzcuaro sangha, whose vision aligns beautifully with our mission.

Current and Recent Projects

The New Bath House

A much-needed addition to support larger groups and events.
 It includes:
 • Three private stalls for women
 • Three urinals and one private stall for men
 • Two private showers

Built with natural and sustainable materials, the bath house complements the beauty of our gardens while offering increased comfort for our guests.

Garuda Cabin — Sustainable Guest Housing

Our newest compacted earth cabin, designed for solo retreatants or couples.
 It features:
 • Queen-size bed
 • Fireplace for cozy evenings
 • Full kitchen
 • Private bathroom with shower
 • Beautiful views nestled within the garden

Built with natural materials and local craftsmanship, Garuda Cabin is a model for future sustainable guest accommodations at Casa Werma.

Future Projects — Why We Are Fundraising

In order to support the growth of our community and meet the increasing demand for programming, we are actively fundraising for several future projects:

Werma Shrine in the Troje

Our traditional Purépecha troje will be lovingly restored and transformed into a Werma Shrine, dedicated to the teachings of our founder, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, who composed The Roar of Werma here at Casa Werma. This sacred space will serve as a place of quiet practice, reflection, and pilgrimage for generations to come.

Outdoor Pavilion for Meditation and Yoga

A thoughtfully designed open-air pavilion that can comfortably accommodate up to 50 people for meditation retreats, yoga, and community gatherings. Our current shrine room holds only 20 people, limiting the size of the groups we can welcome. This pavilion will allow us to expand our offerings while harmonizing with the natural beauty of our gardens.

Additional Sustainable Cabins

To meet the growing interest in private retreats and group accommodations, we plan to build several additional cabins. Each will be sustainably constructed with natural materials and designed for comfort, privacy, and a deep connection to the land.
